🗣 According to Reuters: The UK delays post-Brexit checks on fruits and vegetables

🌍📉 The UK has once again postponed the implementation of post-Brexit physical checks on „medium-risk” fruits and vegetables imported from the European Union.

🔘 The delay, announced by the UK’s Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA), pushes the start date of these checks from January 2025 to 👉 July 1, 2025.

🔘 DEFRA emphasized that these products will not be subject to import checks or related fees at the UK border until the new date.

🔘 According to a statement published last week, this delay aims to give the new UK government ministers time to review and assess the planned implementation of further border controls. It also provides and opportunity for companies involved in import supply chains to voice their concerns and contribute feedback to the process.

🔘 In a related announcement, DEFRA also stated that seven product groups, including apples and pears, will be reclassified from „medium risk” to „low risk.” This change will allow these goods to flow freely into the UK from the EU starting on January 30, 2025.
